Yes, but you really need a qualified teacher. Many books will tell you there is no need for a teacher but it is imperative that you do.

Yes. I have practiced both and are my #1 recommendation for relaxation. There are some great books out there to help give you all of the information necessary to make sure you are doing it properly and what to stay away from. I took self-hypnosis so far as to use it during childbirth and it worked wonderfully! Kudos to you for taking the time and effort to find a way to relax in a natural, safe, and drug-free manner!!

Yes. I am a clinical hypnotherapist and practice both hypnosis and meditation. Hypnosis is a lot like guided meditation. Both methods help you to relax, raise your energy level, and alter your state of consciousness. Both are very safe and effective. During meditation, you relax your mind and clear it of the normal "mind chatter". In hypnosis, your conscious mind (the logical side) becomes relaxed, but your subconscious mind becomes more focused. Your subconscious mind includes all your memories, emotions, and imagination. That’s why hypnosis is very effective in tuning into past lives or blocked emotions, for example. Meditation would not be used for the same purpose. Both meditation and hypnosis are excellent for different reasons and complement each other. For more information about hypnosis and meditation, you can visit my websites, http://www.MyMagicalJourney.com and http://www.ParkerHypnosis.com. I also have a free hypnosis track for relaxation on the My Magical Journey website. Good luck with your practice!

With self hypnosis you usually have a goal to obtain and you can use the trigger words to help you. This can include relaxation.

With meditation there is no real goal to achieve except relaxation. Which is great.

Use both and you will be better off.

And please don’t listen to the person that says you need someone qualified, that is just B.S. if you are just doing it for relaxation. They just want your money.
