hypnosis, has anyone had it done and does it work – see DETAILS please before answering??

Hypnosis, as far as I am aware, is NOT where the hypnotherapist puts you in a trance and brainwashes or controls you. That’s all poppycock and movie-style hypnosis, therapeutic hypnosis works on dealing with subconscious issues. It’s very healing and there’s medical proof of it working, so that’s not the issue.
my question is this….. is the REAL type of hypnotherapy helpful to YOU, did YOU have a good experience?

has anyone done it to break addictions or for weight loss?

I am signed up for a 5 week hypnotherapy service and I want to hear other’s success stories/bad experiences.

I had five sessions prior to having major surgery. During the surgery, I listened to the tape of it as I was "going under."

After the surgery, my surgeon, who didn’t think it would work, was amazed at how little I bled. My recovery time should have been at least a week, but I left the hospital in three days. When I say major surgery, I mean it took 65 staples to close the opening, so I’m not kidding.

That’s the only thing I’ve ever had it for, but my husband tried it to quit smoking. The only thing was, he was in a room with 150 other people. That’s not conducive to relaxation and it didn’t work for him. I believe if he’d had private sessions, as I did, it would have worked.

Side note: He finally did quit smoking through acupuncture. If the hypnotherapy doesn’t help you, maybe you can try the acupuncture.

Good luck!!!

hypnothis is all about the power of suggestion, you have to be open to the idea and want it and believe it to come about, it works because the placebo effect works 60% of the time (giving someone sugar water and telling them it will help or cure their problems), with stronger believers that 60% placebo effect could well become much larger

in other words, it is completely bull, but if you believe in it hard enough, it will likely work

to start with I was first certified in June 1954. I am now retired. I am both a hypnotist (classical,a la Erickson)and a subject.
I see some very positive thoughts in your question and believe that you will be successful in your therapy. Have you had your first induction and was it successful. This should have been done before you signed up!
I was one of the "lab rats for Dr. Richards at U of Chicago during the development of the progressive relaxation technique. I have spent hundreds of hours in deep trance and find it one of the most profound sensations you can experience. Being non chemical, I would say any time and do it with a grin on my face. one of the interesting things is depending on the suggestion given. five minutes can seem like 5 hours and 5 hours seem like 5 minutes.the feeling when your focus becomes a single point without your body is a little uncomfortable at first but wonderful beyond words.
enjoy and see how deep you can go. relax let go and let it happen. each time a little deeper.always more profound.

I often use actual light & sound machines, within my office. Surprisingly, the "Virtual Light & Sound Machine" Meditation FREEWARE does offer a close approximation of the real deal. The software’s relaxing phenomenon is purportedly attributable to "brainwave entrainment" through "audio-visual-stimulation." This program does not rely upon "binaural beats."
