hypnosis, has anyone had it done and does it work – see DETAILS please before answering??

Hypnosis, as far as I am aware, is NOT where the hypnotherapist puts you in a trance and brainwashes or controls you. That’s all poppycock and movie-style hypnosis, therapeutic hypnosis works on dealing with subconscious issues. It’s very healing and there’s medical proof of it working, so that’s not the issue.
my question is this….. is the REAL type of hypnotherapy helpful to YOU, did YOU have a good experience?

has anyone done it to break addictions or for weight loss?

I am signed up for a 5 week hypnotherapy service and I want to hear other’s success stories/bad experiences.

I had five sessions prior to having major surgery. During the surgery, I listened to the tape of it as I was "going under."

After the surgery, my surgeon, who didn’t think it would work, was amazed at how little I bled. My recovery time should have been at least a week, but I left the hospital in three days. When I say major surgery, I mean it took 65 staples to close the opening, so I’m not kidding.

That’s the only thing I’ve ever had it for, but my husband tried it to quit smoking. The only thing was, he was in a room with 150 other people. That’s not conducive to relaxation and it didn’t work for him. I believe if he’d had private sessions, as I did, it would have worked.

Side note: He finally did quit smoking through acupuncture. If the hypnotherapy doesn’t help you, maybe you can try the acupuncture.

Good luck!!!

i want someone to paraphrase this for me ?

(Hypnotherapy is widely used to help reduce nicotine cravings and to break drug addictions. It is also common for people to use hypnosis for weight loss and to help overcome phobias such as fear of flying, and to increase self confidence.
It is also used to compliment conventional medicine in diabetes care, pain management, reduction of bleeding in haemophiliacs, to reduce asthma and hay fever attacks, and irritable bowel syndrome.
It won’t cure cancer, heart disease or infections but some people may find it effective as pain relief.
Hypnosis has been proven to reduce anxiety, panic disorders, insomnia, especially when it is combined with cognitive behavioural therapy)

Hypnotherapy has been widely used for several medical problems, such as diabetes care, pain management, reduction of bleeding in haemophiliacs, to reduce asthma and hay fever attacks, and irritable bowel syndrome. People have also used hypnotherapy for phobias, addictions and self esteem issues.
Hypnotherapy has been shown to help with psychological issues, especailly when combined with cognitive behavioral therapy.

Hypnotherapy…would you?

If it was to help with weight loss, smoking, OCD, social problems, pain management etc. Would you consider it as a viable option? If not why not? Thanx x
I am thinking of re-training to do this and I just want ppls opinions before I start. I will probably do it anyway as I find it really interesting. Thanx again for your answers x

Hypnotherapy, is a very good option to treat various psychosomatic disorders. For pain management you need some tangible options. Yes you can help a person to lose weight, smoking, OCD, and social problems. These areas work on the mind, in addition, it helps in healing phobias, schizophrenia, and many mentally related disorders.

For pain management, you can infact use it for a temporary period. Post hypnotic suggestions cannot heal pain and the conditions associated with it. It can even be a dangerous option.

Remember, with hypnosis, you can only stop the sensation of pain and not the pain itself. Take the case of spondylosis, both cervical or lumbar, can you take care of the damaged or herniated discs? If you stop the pain by hypnosis, there may be a chance that the patient will over use and abuse his neck and back more than he is supposed to and this may result in serious problems.

You need to have an open mind towards hypno-therapy and its uses.

I am a hypnotherapist myself.

Hypnotherapy?

I went to a hypnotherapy session last night. It was directed toward stop smoking, weight loss and stress relief. Just wondering if anyone else had done a hypnosis session and what their long term outcomes were?

You did not mention why you were there. or what you hoped to accomplish. Did you achieve trance state? If so what results have you experienced in that direction?
I have seen people finish an advanced session to stop smoking walk out and light up a smoke. They were just checking to see if they could do it with out something happening to them. Some people try very hard to defeat them selves. I have been a registered hypnotist since 1954. and have helped many people. Some people failed . I have used hypnosis my self for some things would scare the pants off you. I was a "lab rat ‘"at the U of Chicago in the 50s . I did some advanced work with the Selkrig group where we studied techniques from the Pavlov Institute.(Moscow, Russia )
Hypnosis will help you, not make you ,do something. Suggestions can be given to make you very ill as in vomiting and other unpleasant things if you do what is forbidden so to speak. This is referred to as aversion . it is seldom used.

Has anyone ever used hypnotherapy cd’s, and if so did they work?

I’m trying to curb my appetite… friend that tried the stop smoking one had a lot of success… I’m wondering if anyone has tried the weight loss one and had any success?

I’ve tried one for relaxation, smoking and weight loss… and to be honest, they didn’t work for me. But everyone is different. Some people are just more open to the powers of hypnosis than others. I think my subconscious is just as stubborn as I am! lol!

Hypnotherapy, would you try it as an alternative?

Many people whom i have come across have serious problems for emaple depression, anxieties,
bulemia,anorexia,
OCD,phobias and some have tried all the diets with little success for weight loss.Stopping smoking is also a good way to stop using hypnotherapy, and did you know that if you suffer from depression and go to GP they get £45 per prescription for giving you anti depressants? and then they refer you to a counsellor when the pills dont work. It makes me really angry that hypnotherapy is very successful yet the NHS are only just looking into it as an alternative, doctors dont really understand it yet they know it works. Would you try hypnotherapy?

Hiya,

I would try hypnotherapy. In fact, I have. I also highly recommend it. It might not work for everyone, but that can be said about a lot of things, including medication or even doctors. It’s all about money innit? I’m not sure who writes "the rules" and why alternative treatments aren’t accepted because they’re not "tested and approved". Well, it’s about time they checked into it and did start accepting and approving other methods.
As for hypnosis, many people have been treated with great success over the years and for sure I would recommend it to others as well.
