Does hypnotherapy actually work? Has anyone actually had it? Not like carnival hypnotists…licensed ones?
I need it to get rid of this absolutely ridiculous fear of snakes thats absolutely taking over my life.
Everything i do now is surrounded by the fact that wherever i go i MIGHT see a snake and im fed up with it.
Would hypnotizing work?
Hypnosis might. What they would probably do is try to create positive associations with snakes in your mind, over and over.
Self-hypnosis tapes might be of use, though I haven’t benefitted from them for various other things.
Another thing that might help would be supervised and controlled exposure. What you do is gradually work yourself up to touching or holding a snake (non-venomous of course).
There are also some of the newer "thought field" therapies. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Retraining) is one that is used with PTSD sufferers, and I don’t see why it would not help with phobias. In fact, I think I read somewhere that they have used it on phobias such as fear of aircraft.
Expanding on EMDR, there are also accupressure and touch therapies that claim to help with fears and phobias. There is even a CD series around that I think is called, Instant Emotional Healing. I think it is in book form as well. It works with affirmations, visualization, touching pressure points, reversing polarities, etc.
