Hypnotherapy for weight loss – does it work and how much does it cost?

I’m thinking of trying hypnotherapy for weight loss, but would like to see if there are any folks out there who have tried it with success or for those who have not been successful, why do you think it didn’t work for you? Also, how much does it cost?

For the last few months I’ve felt completely unmotivated to eat right and exercise. I have no drive to do anything about being overweight and would rather wallow in self-loathing than do anything about it. I feel like I need a major subconscious attitude adjustment or maybe even subliminal slap in the face to snap out of this funk!

Also, I am NOT interested in taking appetite suppressants! I want to make long term healthy adjustments – I just need to find a way to stop sabotaging myself.

Thanks everybody!

Long term healthy adjustments is a very good plan.

Find a good hypnotherapist who will listen to you and create an induction which is tailor-made for you. During the first session he/she will be able to tell you how many sessions you are likely to need and will give you advice on the way.

Cost can be anything between $50 – $100

Wishing you all the best in a healthy body

has anyone actually been hypnotized using self hypnosis?

I have always wondered what it would be like to be hypnotized using self hypnosis. I have tried the youtube videos and those don’t work for me lol. I don’t want to download any software. Any suggestions?

It is definitely possible to be hypnotised without a hypnotist or a software. Actually hypnosis is nothing else but a self hypnosis, sometimes guided from the outside. Think about the difference between training alone in the gym and being aided by a trainer that can push you to do more than otherwise might. However as you’ve never been hypnotised before there is no way you could do out of the blue. More than anything else you must understand the ideas behind hypnosis – and of course you don’t get from video alone. You may believe that you can totally relax your body just from willing it but you need to deeply know in your body that it’s possible. and with no relaxation you cannot be hypnotised. In my experience learning from a book with audio material is the best way to catch the main principles of hypnosis. You can find more information about it in http://www.eHypnoticTrance.com .
Good Luck!

Can hypnotism really help you forget a bad experience?

Before I spend any money on it, I was wondering if anyone has used hypnotism to help them forget a bad experience? How long did it take? Was it expensive?

the best way to forget a past experience is to actually confront the issues which resulted from that experience

personally i think hypnotism is a load of garbage aimed at robbing desperate people of their money (no offence)

there’s better ways in dealing with these issues, for example; a counsellor, someone you can trust and confide in to tell your problems to, facing your fears etc

good luck =]

Is it true that hypnotherapy is only effective if used by a psychiatrist?

I’ve heard from an unreliable source that can only psychiatrists are good at hypnotherapy. That psychologists aren’t? Is that true.

Also can hypnotherapy can help to cope with a bad memory? My goal is NOT to erase the bad memory itself. Instead, my goal is to deal with it and eliminate all emotions attached to it. In my case, it would be a case of post traumatic stress disorder due to sexual harassment.

hypnotherapy isnt related to any job besides the person executing it.

If your family learn it properly, even they can apply it.

If i get this right and you are also talking about hypnosis, then let me say the following:

hypnosis only effects if you are open to it. if you are scared for it, you are not vurnable for it. You must feel comfortable when its being applied to you. You NEVER do something you normally wouldnt either when being in hypnotic state.

Anyways, your source was unreliable indeed.

Has anyone ever been to see a hypnotist? How do you find one?

I am looking to find a hypnotist that can help me to remember an incident from my past that I seem to have completely blocked out. Does anyone know if they actually work and how it is that one goes about finding one?

Thanks for your help!

Yes, go for a hypnotherapist. It definitely works. The best way to get one is to go by personal recommendation. If not yellow pages, directories on internet of local therapists.

How do you get someone to stop smoking at work?

I started a new job a month ago. I was so happy because I finally got decent pay and health insurance. Unfortunately, this was too good to be true. One of my coworkers smokes in the office. I have asthma and am allergic to cigarette smoke. Everytime she lights one up, I start smothering. I told my boss in person about my health condition and all he said he’d do is put up automatic door closers on the doors around her (she smokes in the doorway of the building so she can stay by the phone). Well, about 2 or 3 weeks went by, and he’d still not put anything up. I decided to email him and tell him again. I asked him if he could ban smoking indoors completely. Well, finally he decides to put those automatic door closers on there. But guess what, she props her door open! It’s terrible!

Anyway, have any of you dealt with smokers at work. How do you get someone to stop. The bad thing is, my boss is a smoker too! So he doesn’t care! If they don’t stop, I’m going to have to find another job!
Well, about speaking to her directly. She can be very mean. She was very ugly to me at first, and then someone talked to her for me, and now she’s nice. I don’t know how she’d react if I told her to stop.
The reason she smokes in the doorway is because she’s a dispatcher. If she goes outside completely, she’ll miss a call or something on the radio.
I did talk to my boss. He’s a smoker as well and does not care about my condition. Also, if I cause a big stink about this, everyone is going to dislike me because the majority of people there seem to smoke. The other non-smokers are medics and get to get away. I’m an office person and always have to be there. Eh, it sucks. :(

Well most of the time smokers are the majority so the only way you can combat it is to sit down with your boss and have a serious conversation about your medical problem, but before you do, make sure you are serious about it. Dont talk to him if it "bothers" or "annoys" you. Talk to him if your health is at serious risk.

Also, make sure you are creating a paper trail. Keep those emails and make copies. Check out your local laws. You could probably sue the living hell out of these people. There isnt supposed to be smoking in the workplace, its probably against building codes or something, i dont know. It just depends on your area.

Can you please recommend a hypnotherapist to lose weight in South Orange County that isn’t too expensive?

I’m looking for a hypnotherapist to lose weight that isn’t too expensive in South Orange County. Anyone know of one?

Early in the morning before you eat, your levels of muscle and liver glycogen (stored carbohydrates) are low. If you eat dinner at 7 p.m. and you eat breakfast at 7 a.m., that’s 12 hours without food. During this 12-hour overnight fast, your levels of glycogen slowly decline to provide glucose for various bodily functions that go on even while you sleep. As a result, you wake up in the morning with depleted glycogen and lower blood sugar – the optimum environment for burning fat instead of carbohydrate. How much more fat you’ll burn is uncertain, but some studies have suggested that up to 300% more fat is burned when cardio is done in a fasted, glycogen-depleted state.

do you think hypnotherapists ,should be regulated, crb checked?

so many unscrupulous people, can do a course, then practise, with no safeguard for the clients.

Yes, I do! In fact, there are so many new-age ‘therapies’ that have the potential to really do harm, and anyone can just set themselves up in business!

I myself am a trained and qualified hypnotherapist! On the strength of a short course and a weekend workshop, I have a fancy set of certificates I could hang up if I ever wanted to set up a practise! And the point is, I don’t even need those – anyone could describe themselves as a hypnotherapist, even with no training at all!

Is it possible to wake up a hypnotized person with smelling salts or other physiological method?

Someone (not a hypnosis expert) told me that physiological methods don’t work in waking up a hypnotized person because there’s not a strong enough link to the psychological.

It depends what the circumstances are. Mostly, anything shocking will take a person out of trance unless they are instructed to remain in trance, which is easy–"even a smell or sound or feeling that would normally distract you will only serve to make you feel more relaxed." Other than that, I think if you are _trying_ to wake a person up with that method, it will work. It’s better to use the traditional methods of counting down and suggesting that they awake refreshed and all that.
