Just wondering does hypnotherapy actually work for weight-loss?

Have any of you guys tried it, any recommendations?

Hi Cartoon Kitty,

In a word – yes.

I’m an analytical hypnotherapist and I’ve worked with scores of people wanting to lose weight – and as a rough estimate, around 80% achieved this through the work we do together.

Dr Franks apparently negative response to hypnotherapy is typical amongst the ‘old school’ doctors who have either never studied it, or who have tried it and not been much good at it (like Freud – initially).

Around 30% or my learned colleagues are qualified doctors, many are doctors of psychiatry who now use hypnotherapy first as it is fast and effective. Such hypnotherapy greats as Dr Milton Erickson spent much time training doctors – and opinions are slowly changing in the medical world.

However – Dr Franks is absolutely right in his reference to placebo. What is placebo, but mind over matter? Your unconscious mind (accessed in hypnosis) controls over 80% of your autonomic body functions, so hypnosis can indeed work in the same way as a placebo – just at a deeper level.

For myself, I specialise in analytical hypnotherapy – I look for the source of problems.
One case involved a lady who was bullied as a child by an overweight bully. Her unconscious then made her overweight as a misguided form of protection. In hypnotic regression, we revisited the originating incident and reframed it – and she achieved her goal of getting into her pre-ordered and deliberately small wedding dress 4 months later.

Dr Franks quite correctly says that it is simply a matter of eating less and/or exercising more – but the unconscious mind controls the urge to eat and the desire to exercise – as well the overall metabolism – so hypnotherapy does work.

I respectfully suggest that all doubters read about the life and work of Dr Milton Erickson, and also read The Biology of Belief by Dr Bruce Lipton.

So I suggest hunting out a local experienced and insured analytical hypnotherapist.

Hope this helps…

HYPNOTISM……………??

I’m just wondering where hypnotism falls on the scale of good-evil.
I know it says in the Bible that any type of magic is wrong…. and psychics are of the "Devil"….
What IS hypnotism condsidered?
Is it considered a type of magic or just a simple "mind-control"?

Any insight??

Just curious.

Hypnotism is a just a method of influencing people

No occult nonsense involved

It’s not "magic" and psychics, mediums, spiritists and other people who think they have special powers don’t actually exist – they are all either self-deluded or knowing fakes.

Robert went to a hypnotist to help him quit smoking. Which of the following predictions best states what the h?

a)The hypnotist would suggest changes in Robert’s feelings, perceptions, thoughts, or behaviors related to smoking.

b) The hypnotist would stimulate Robert’s five senses using monotonous hypnotic induction and force him to quit smoking.

c) The hypnotist would ask Robert to go to sleep until the hypnosis is over.

d) The hypnotist would ask Robert to do something that is against his will to motivate him to stop smoking.

The answer is a: The hypnotist would suggest changes in Robert’s feelings, perceptions, thoughts, or behaviors related to smoking.

"With the assistance of a hypnotist, a subject chooses what they wish to explore and the hypnotist suggests changes in the feelings, perceptions, thoughts, or behaviors related to this subject."

Hope that helps. :)

How do I stop smoking with no support from friends or family?

I am almost 7 months pregnant, and I have tried many times to stop smoking. I am attempting once more. I get alot of pressure from my fiancee who also smokes. Also, he seems unwilling to even try to support me through this. My "friends" still light up right in fromt of me, to the fact where I have to leave the room just to not be around the smoke. Isit even possible to quit with all this going on? Any suggestions?

My husband went to a hypnotist. It actually worked.

What are ways stage hypnotists put their volunteers into a trance?

The key word is "volunteers." They are not volunteers, they are part of crew and get paid for doing it.

Are there any hypnotherapists on site?

We are considering hypnosis for my daughter’s anxiety in relation to her colitis. Every time she gets in a car, goes to a mall, or movie it triggers a run to the bathroom because of the "what if I have to go" factor. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I’m CHt. (Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist) by IACT (International Association of Counselors & Therapists) for many years as well as RN, Certified Healing Touch Practitioner, Registered Respiratory Therapist, EFT & Reiki 2 trained.

I have used hypnosis for colitis/IBS problems with success. Interestingly though, it came down to reflecting on what were triggers be it it food or anxiety driven beliefs. My intuition on your story tells me there are some issues, known or not around this.

Being an EFT site, I have to say EFT is as good approach as any of my tools/experience.

I would expect a third party involved would be best with need for privacy being key for your daughter to be fully released to investigate her responses to her colitis. Her ‘what if’ is plenty to cause her reaction & behavior.

In the mean time, I will hold her in the light & send my love & support from a distance. If you feel she would be open to the idea, tell her that others care about her wellbeing that don’t even need to know her personally.

Is it possible to be hypnotized into the ability to learn another language faster and better?

I can’t seem to "absorb" spanish or french, etc. Can you be hypnotized to get rid whatever is blocking the ability to learn?

It is a common misconception about hypnosis that it can make people do things they wouldn’t normally do – which isn’t entirely true. It can help change your ways, but can’t alter your basic psychological structure. Hypnosis would not help you learn any language faster if you’re bad at absorbing them now.
